Dr. Kathryn ("Katie") Kanzler is a board-certified clinical health psychologist and researcher who writes and teaches on living well with chronic health conditions and the conditions of life. Dr. Kanzler's research focuses on increasing access to effective behavioral interventions to help people thrive while living with chronic diseases and health concerns such as diabetes and chronic pain. Her objective is to develop scalable interventions that enhance health for all by improving outcomes in high-need communities.  

     Dr. Kanzler's career trajectory is unique: she served as an active-duty US Air Force psychologist for 8.5 years before transitioning to academic medicine in 2015. She has built a strong and growing national reputation as a researcher, clinician, and educator with expertise in integrated Primary Care Behavioral Health, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, self-management of chronic health conditions, and the implementation of program-based interventions with paraprofessionals.

     Dr. Kanzler was a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for 7 years and has been in her current position with Baylor College of Medicine since 2022. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine and  Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and is also a health services researcher in the joint BCM-VA Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt) in Houston, Texas.
