Trusting unhelpful mental messages narrows our options and pulls us off course.

Notice the stories your mind tells you.

Are they helpful?

We all have stories about ourselves, narratives in the background.

They try to dictate who we are, what we are capable of, and what we care about.

It doesn’t matter if the stories are accurate.

Or not.

What matters is if you buy into them as true — and whether that is a helpful thing to do.

Does your mental messaging bolster your strength to do brave things?

Lend you direction when facing a hard choice?

Compel you to follow your deepest values?

Or do the narratives

…Leave you feeling defeated?

Don’t bother trying, it’s genetics — you’re screwed.

...Impart a sense of failure?

You can’t get anything right.

…Spin up a bunch of anxiety?

It will be too difficult and you know you can’t handle that.

…Stifle meaningful changes you want to make?

You won’t be able to stick with it, as usual.

It may be time for some heavy editing.

New stories create different neural pathways, presenting more choices for where to focus your attention. You don’t even have to believe them 100%.

What is something you need to hear, that you can tell yourself?

(Something you’d share with a beloved person in your life.)

The old stories will still exist, but there are endless options for what your mind has on repeat.

You are not locked in.

You can rewire your brain, forever changing your life’s storyline.
