Is It an Off Day?

When your body and mind are out of alignment, it’s ok to keep your expectations low.

Some days you’re just a little off.

Or a lot off.

You wish you knew why and maybe you do,

But it doesn’t matter because you’re not quite right.

You feel really weird.

You can’t get things done

or focus

or not cry

or feel ok inside your skin.

Your head has sand where the neurons are supposed to be.

What the hell?

Nothing is terribly wrong and also

Nothing is right.

There is no point in trying to figure it out or make it stop. It’s probably just this way for however long it will be. Maybe till tomorrow.

Your mind will weave unhelpful evaluative thoughts together. They lay like a heavy blanket over your mood, smothering joy, implying this is your life now.

You’ll always be exhausted, sad, anxious, restless… whatever.

It’s just an off day.

Don’t buy into those thoughts. Notice how they fly in, and they fly out, ping-ponging around with no paddle to knock them off this mental table.

They’re just doing what they do and you can still do what you need to do – but with extra kindness. All the little things count on a day like today.

Water your plants. And yourself.

Eat something nourishing and get to sleep early, if possible.

Just keep your expectations low,

and practice being a good (if weird) friend to yourself.
